NEWS RELEASE: RHS Football Program Receives “Touchdown In Your Town” Grant
Roseville High School was visited by the Detroit Lions Foundation’s Touchdown in Your Town program on July 22, 2026, presenting the RHS football program with $20,000 in gear and training supplies. In its eighth year, the Detroit Lions Touchdown in Your Town program accepts applications to provide support for Michigan high school football and cheer programs.
The program received new helmets, shoulder pads, practice equipment, a blocking sled, and agility bags. Detroit Lions Foundation Program Director Terrence Thomas, former Lion Rob Sims, and representatives from football gear and equipment company Riddell, presented the gift to the team. Lions mascot Roary and the Lions Cheerleaders also participated in the event. In addition, the team received tickets to a Lions’ preseason game in August and will be recognized on the field during the game. RHS Panthers Head Coach Vernard Snowden said that the team appreciates the generous gift. “We are very thankful for this donation from the Detroit Lions and even more grateful for the individuals who nominated us for this. It shows our community sees the work and the positive things we do as a program.”
RHS Athletic Director Keith Marzec said maintaining team equipment can be costly. “Every year, we have a company that collects all of our helmets, shoulder pads, and other gear to be reconditioned. Equipment that is deemed beyond repair is replaced going into the next season. The cost for this process usually runs between $10,000 and $13,000, which comes out of our athletic budget. We do not put the burden of equipment costs on our families.” Marzec added that through the donation, the school is able to replace more helmets and shoulder pads than it normally would. “Helmets typically have a 10-year lifespan. After that they need to be replaced. This puts us in a better position moving forward with the additional equipment to possibly have a freshman team.”
Principal Jason Bettin said that he is proud that the RHS athletic programs have never required students to pay to play sports. “We remain committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate in athletics and other extracurricular activities if they choose.” He added that getting involved in school activities beyond the classroom helps students build connections and friendships, develop valuable skills, and enjoy a more positive high school experience. “Providing our student-athletes with quality facilities, equipment, and opportunities has always been a priority. We want our students to have the resources they need to succeed and an experience that compares favorably with any school they visit or compete against.” Marzec said that the support from the Detroit Lions is appreciated. “This is a great example of partnerships that make a positive impact on our students. The grant has provided additional football equipment while also allowing more of our athletic budget to support the needs of student-athletes across all our programs.”
