Roseville High School has named Rashard Porter the new head coach of the varsity boys basketball program. Porter comes to Roseville after a successful playing and coaching career.

Porter had a successful career on the court as a high school player. He starred at Romulus High School from 2005-2009, leading the school to two MHSAA Final Four appearances and earning all-state honors his senior year. He started his college career playing at Marshalltown Community College in Iowa. He then made the move back to Michigan to play at Henry Ford Community College in 2011, before finishing his playing career at Saginaw Valley State University. After college, he made the shift to coaching. From 2017-2019, he served as the Skill and Development Coach at Southfield Christian, helping lead the team to two MHSAA Class D state championships. He then spent three years serving as head assistant coach a River Rouge High School team that made two MHSAA tournament appearances. Most recently, he served as the varsity assistant coach for Brother Rice High School, a team that won two district championships, a regional championship, and made a 2024 MHSAA Elite Eight appearance.

Porter said that he felt that Roseville was a good fit for his coaching philosophy. “I love the energy that Roseville brought to me, and it matched, so it was easy to join the Roseville community and feel like I was part of a home and family.” Porter added that he is an advocate for education and his program will focus on max effort, continuous growth, and selfless love. “There is a saying that ‘if you care enough about yourself, you give it to others to serve.’ We want to make sure we set the culture as soon as possible because we have a lot of good things that we want to bring.”

Roseville High School Athletic Director Keith Marzec said that Porter was chosen from nearly thirty applicants. “He is high energy, well organized, and has strong vision for where he wants to take our basketball program.” Marzec believes he will not only have an impact on the culture of the basketball program, but the culture throughout the whole school. “His goal is to play at the Breslin Center and become an elite program. He comes from a highly successful coaching tree and is ready to take our program to the next level.”
