NEWS RELEASE: Boler Hired as New Roseville High School Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Greg Boler has been named the new head coach of Roseville High School’s varsity boys basketball program. Boler fills the spot vacated by Coach Hassan Nizam, who was recently named head coach of the Macomb Community College Monarchs.

Boler had a successful career on the court, playing for Benedict College in South Carolina before an injury derailed his career.  Boler’s love of basketball then shifted to coaching, starting at Westside Christian Academy in 2009.  In his second year at WCA, he compiled a 20-6 record, losing in the semi-finals of the MHSAA State Finals.  Most recently, he served as head coach of Dearborn’s Advanced Technology Academy where, like Roseville, a 2020 state finals run was halted by the pandemic.  He has also spent time as an assistant coach for Detroit King and the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Boler said that he is excited to begin his new role with the Panthers.  “It’s going to be fun here.  We’re planning on building this program into a powerhouse, and I’m going to do my best to bring a state championship to this community.”  Boler added that he shares a similar coaching philosophy to Coach Nizam.  “I shared some time with him at U of M Dearborn, so I know for a fact that I bring the same work ethic.  The players are going to be prepared, coached up, and they are going to know that I care for them outside of basketball.”

Roseville High School Athletic Director Keith Marzec said that Boler was chosen from over 50 coaches who applied for the open head coaching position.  “It shows that we have a strong program that so many coaches wanted to be a part of. Coach Boler has a great track record and our kids really responded to his coaching during a workout in the second round of interviews.”  Marzec added that he is excited that Boler has decided to join the Roseville family.  “I strongly believe Boler is the right coach to continue the success we have had and will take the program to greater heights.”

Nizam heads to Macomb Community College after four successful years at RHS, where he helped guide the Panthers to the school's first regional championship, three district championships, and a final eight appearance in the state finals in 2019.  Marzec thanked Coach Niz for his tenure and said that he wishes the best for him in his new role with the Monarchs.  “He did a great job putting our basketball program on the map, making us one of the top teams in Macomb County.  His work ethic and dedication to the kids was second to none. We will still have a working relationship with Coach Niz and I am sure he will be looking at our kids to play at Macomb.”
